Start making money, don't give it away to third parties · The Ubereats strategy.

by Ordering, on Mar 18, 2021 7:19:09 PM

Companies like Uber Eats are a three-sided marketplace connecting a driver, a restaurant owner and a customer with their platform at the center. The three-sided marketplace moves around three players: Restaurants pay commission on the orders to third parties; Customers pay the small delivery charges, and at times, cancellation fee; Drivers earn through making reliable deliveries on time.
This market is projected to grow to $ 365 billion by the end of this decade.
3rd Party Companies such as UberEats understood that betting on the comfort of customers would generate a substantial increase in their profits and nowadays more and more are joining this trend that only seems to keep going up.
Unfortunately, although this brings many benefits to the customer, who often prefers to pay a small extra (or not so small...) on their orders in order to have their food delivered directly to their door and the restaurant that even triples its sales, the demand that has been generated for this type of services, led large 3rd companies to charge excessive commissions for the use of their services.

Below we completely describes the revenue flow in the Uber Eats ecosystem:
- Standard Delivery Fee OR Convenience Fee: Uber Eats charges a flat delivery fee from its customers irrespective of the order value. The charges vary from $1 to $5 depending on the market they are operating in.

- Recurring Revenue Share from Restaurant PartnersUber Eats takes a cut of 15% to 40% on every order that is fulfilled from the Restaurant partners. Uber Eats decides the percentage of the commission depending on the age and maturity of the market.
- Marketing & Advertising Fee from Restaurant PartnersUber Eats is helping their restaurant partners attract more customers and reach a larger customer base by offering customer-facing brand campaigns, relatable social posts and email marketing to Uber’s rider base.
As you can see, 3rd party platforms can get to keep up to 40% of your earnings just for allowing you to use their platforms.
